Artist Statement:

I approach the world as a synesthete. I smell and taste color. The world around me is experienced through my physical body with intensity.

Being an artist has been a way for me to express and balance myself in a world that feels overstimulating. It allows me an avenue to communicate my experience that is not based in words or speech which I find more difficult and inadequate.

My work is sensational because that is how I experience life- through sensation.

Artist Bio:

Annie Omens is a photographic and mixed media artist who explores the natural world with a conscious perception of what is hidden, what is known, and how nature impacts the human psyche. Informed by her interest in shamanism and Celtic lore, Omens uses photomontage to examine the intersection of the real and the dimensional depth of the unseen, mixing modalities and meanings with what is perceived and what might be.

Omens’ education includes studies in photography and art at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, the Savannah College of Art and Design, Marquette University and Mount San Jacinto College in Menifee, CA.

Omens has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at exhibitions at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Boston, Massachusetts; A Smith Gallery in Johnson City, Texas; Oceanside Museum of Art in San Diego, California; Galleria 908 in Loreto Mexico; San Diego Art Institute; Pennsylvania Center for Photography; and the Encaustic Art Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico, amongst others. She has received numerous awards for her work and her work is in collections nationally and internationally including at the Encaustic Art Museum.

She lives and works in San Diego, California..
